The Kite Runner Character Analysis Essay - 2101 Words

Amir, the protagonist of Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner began the novel as the stereotypical anti-hero, but as Sohrab, Amir’s half nephew said in the book, â€Å"... bad people sometimes become good† (Hosseini 318). Amir clearly proves this quotation to be factual over the span of the novel. At the beginning of The Kite Runner, he was a selfish character that only thought about himself, he was insecure and guilt-ridden about his betrayal of Hassan, and finally was a coward who ran away from conflict. Throughout the novel Amir developed immensely. He became more selfless, sticks up for himself in conflicts, and becomes mentally strong enough to open up about his greatest mistakes. This was exemplified when one day Amir said to Baba â€Å"‘Baba, have you e ver thought about getting new servants’† (Hosseini 89). Baba was disgusted, and responded, â€Å"‘Forty years Ali’s been with my family. Forty goddamn years. And you think I’m just going to throw him out?’† (Hosseini 89). Self-centeredness is shown by Amir because he would rather kick Ali and Hassan out of the house than face the consequences of his poor choices. This shows his selfishness because he would prefer to make several other people, namely Ali, Hassan, and Baba suffer for his decision instead of enduring the repercussions. As Amir aged, his personality developed and his egocentrism turned into altruism. An example of this is when Amir decided to go to the war-torn country of Afghanistan to try to rescue Hassan’s son, Sohrab. At first, when Rahim Khan asked Amir, Amir would not go because he was afraid for his safety. At the point of the novel Amir had developed mentally, and despite the risks he decided he needed to do this. Amir told the reader: I can’t go to Kabul, I had said to Rahim Khan. To the modern day reader, the term â€Å"Gothic† can often be confused with a certain genre of style involving men and women who wear baggy clothes, black eyeliner and lip-stick and spike their hair and has very little to do with the architecture that was predominantly used from the twelfth to the sixteenth century. In fact the term â€Å"Gothic† was coined by Renaissance Italians as a derogatory term referring to the Goths or Visigoths who were vanquished by Clovis in the sixth century and left no monumental trace of their invasion and therefore had no influence on what is now remembered as Gothic architecture. Despite the negative connotation behind this style of architecture, it has had an enormous impact on the history of architecture. Prior to Romanesque and Gothic architecture, living accommodations were significantly simpler. Structures were not able to support anything but wood roofs, which leaked, rotted and burned easily. Rooms were often dark because structures were also not able to support large windows and as a result, very little light was able to enter into buildings. Romanesque was the beginning of change, when wood roofs were replaced by stone and brick however, Romanesque architecture was often unstable and was known to collapse upon builders as they worked. Handling industrial relationship is the most complex job for a human resource manager. Additionally, industrial relations involves the procedures through which these relationships are expressed. These involve participation of the workers in the decision making process, collective bargaining power of the workers, grievance handling and dISBute settlement. I have always ensured that there is a presence of cooperation and coordination in the workplace. While working for ISB, Biotec Limited and Dubai, I have ensured that there are good relationships between the employees of the organization. I have also ensured that there is good relationship between the employees and their employers. I have also been able to keep the union satisfied which has resulted in peaceful relationship between the management of the organizations and the union groups. The government influences the industrial relations through its rules, policies, laws and agreements. I have ensured that the employees feel comfortable in coming up with any grievances or issues to me and I have been able to solve the issues to a large extent. I have ensured that the employees are involved in the decision making practices of the organization and they are able to keep their views in front of the management. I have also ensured that there are no unfair labor practices within the organization. All these activities have helped in ensuring uninterrupted production and increase in the moral of the employees. I would emphasize on remuneration and organizational culture in order to efficiently handle the grievances of the organizational employees. I will try to improve the working condition for the benefit of the employees and include attractive fringe benefits for the employees to keep them satisfied. I would implement an open door policy that would enable all the employees to visit the top management in case of any problem. I would identify the nature of grievance; collect all the facts related to the issue and provide a tentative solution. After providing the tentative solution, I would check the validity of the given solution. I would also include follow u p in order to determine whether the solution has been effective or not.
